Editorial Assignments

Some pieces of publishing work are too complex to hand to temporary staff when in-house capacity is stretched, but not large enough to justify a permanent resource. These assignments need someone with sound publishing judgement to step in and get them done without extensive briefing or oversight.

Available activities include:

  • Desk research and analysis, for journal development or book series research
  • "Safe pair of hands" assignments requiring senior editorial judgement
  • Transition support when onboarding lists acquired from another publisher
  • Short-term support for discrete one-off tasks or backlog reduction
  • Ad hoc or interim support for gaps in specialist functions

Pre-press Support

I offer specialist support across the latter stages of the publishing process, with a focus on precision, consistency and quality assurance before files go to print or digital distribution. This includes marking up and preparing academic work, non-fiction, fiction and multi-component educational materials.
